Commissioned by the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel to serve as the second missionary unit to the Philippine Island, Rev. & Mrs. A. B. Chaves arrived in Manila in June 1955 to follow-up on the work of Rev. & Mrs. E. E. Denison who were in the U.S. for  furlough. For 1 year after & a half, the Chaveses’ then took the leadership of the Manila Christian Day School and the Foursquare Bible College in Sta. Mesa, Manila until the return of the Denisons.

In Jan. 1, 1957, Rev. & Mrs. A.B. Chaves moved down to Cebu City. Arriving at the center of Cebuano speaking people of which A. B. Chaves was one, the Chaveses’ had one great conviction, “That the harvest is plenteous but the labourers are few.” So in June 25, 1957, the Chaveses’  then founded the Cebu Foursquare Bible Institute. Its goal was to meet the prevailing needs of training and equipping laborers into the harvest field. Two years later, 9 graduated from the training. They called their class, “The Reapers”.

“Training disciples to make disciples,” was the foundation motto of CFBC (then CFBI). At first, the Chaveses’ served as teachers and the administrators of the school. Later on, however, the students who have graduated shared with them in the teaching ministry of the college.

In 1976, the Chaveses’ terminated their missionary work in the Philippines. At their departure, the leadership of the school was given to Rev.  & Mrs. Ralph Elmore. Four years later, the Elmores were also recalled home. Rev. Eloise Clarno then took the leadership as OIC. Her leadership lasted for only a few months. She was reassigned to another place. The national Board then appointed Rev.

& Mrs. Val Chaves as CFBC’s OIC again until they could find the right person.

In 1981-84 Rev. Irene Mahusay assumed the leadership of the college as appointed by the Board. Rev. Eddie Liston in 1984- 1986, followed it. Then in 1986-1995, it was under the leadership of Rev. Pedro Quiliope until his retirement.

In 1995-96 a missionary couple, Rev. & Mrs. Fred Horner were appointed by the Board as CFBC’s OIC. However, early in 1996, the Horners were recalled & assigned to Singapore. The national Board then appointed Rev. & Mrs. Rejulson Lagunero to move down to Cebu to lead the training ministry of CFBC until early 2004. Then Rev.  & Mrs. Rewel Buctuan took the leadership as the college Director from 2004 to 2007. Rev. Lagunero became the director again from year 2007 to May 2012 and he turned over it again to Rev. Rewel Buctuan. Rev. Buctuan was the director from year 2012 to May 2016. Presently, our director is Rev. Archt. Richard Cabaluna

Since its founding, more or less 470 men and women were trained and equipped in the word for the work of the ministry. 75 to 80% of these are active in the ministry in the Central, Eastern, Western Visayas, Negros Oriental, some in Luzon and Mindanao and even some are all over the globe. Some of them however, have already gone to meet the Master.

Great experiences and anticipations are up high in the air as CFBC step into the 21st century to meet the challenging need of the next generation. But after all these, there is only one thing in common to those who have answered the call – there is indeed great joy in the harvest.

TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY!!!
